After Eight is a compact, fragrant Oriental lily with deep cherry-pink flowers edged in white. The Lily Looks breeder lists it in the Sunny series of naturally short Oriental pot lilies, while garden profiles describe it as a shorter form suited to containers. ## Flowers and placement
The flowers are large and star-shaped, with deep pink petals and crisp white margins. Garden listings give an approximate mature height of 18–20 inches and spread of 10–12 inches, making the plant useful in tubs, containers, small borders, and cut-flower displays. The Sunny series was developed for pot culture and is described by Lily Looks as short, Oriental, and fragrant.
## Growing conditions
Provide full sun or partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. A rich soil with an acidic tendency suits Oriental lilies, but drainage remains important around the bulb. Published flowering times range from late summer into early fall, depending on climate and growing conditions. Keep the roots cooler where possible while allowing stems and flowers access to light.
## Maintenance
Water during active growth so the root zone stays evenly moist without becoming waterlogged. Remove faded flowers as they finish, then leave healthy stems and foliage in place until they yellow. Cut back the dead stems after the growing season, and use a sheltered position to reduce wind damage to the flowers.
