Create design onlineAbout Purple Explosion™ Lily Turf
Purple Explosion™ is a compact, evergreen lilyturf with green, arching foliage and abundant violet-purple flower spikes from late summer into fall. Its low clumping habit suits edging and small groundcover areas, especially where a strong flower display is wanted above a tidy foliage mound.
## Flowers and form
The assigned selection corresponds to the trade name Purple Explosion and U.S. plant patent PP21352; the patent denomination is ‘EXC 052’. The [patent record](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP21352) describes compact, outwardly arching growth and freely produced violet flowers. A peer-reviewed [Liriope cultivar survey](https://journals.ashs.org/downloadpdf/journals/hortsci/50/7/article-p957.pdf) records green foliage and flowering from summer to autumn. Production-stage plant measurements in these sources are not the same as a universal mature garden size.
## Growing conditions
Use partial shade or a site with gentle morning sun and well-drained soil. Keep new plantings evenly watered while they establish; established lilyturf tolerates some dry periods. Allow air around the clumps and avoid persistently waterlogged soil.
## Maintenance
Remove old leaves before new spring growth if the foliage looks worn. Trim spent flower stems for a tidy appearance, or leave them where the resulting dark berries are welcome. Divide crowded clumps in spring; preserve enough room for the foliage to arch outward.
