Creeping lilyturf is an evergreen, rhizomatous ground cover with narrow leaves and short summer spikes of pale violet or off-white flowers. It fills shaded spaces quickly, but its spreading roots need room and a firm boundary.
## Landscape Use
North Carolina Extension lists mature dimensions of about 6–18 inches tall and 1–2 feet wide. Creeping lilyturf can cover a bank or grow under trees and shrubs, but it spreads rapidly into neighboring turf and beds. Use a contained planting or a root barrier where its spread must be limited; the [NC State profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/liriope-spicata/) describes an 18-inch-deep edging for confinement. NC State also identifies it as invasive in Tennessee and Georgia, so check local guidance before planting.
## Growing Conditions
Choose partial to deep shade and well-drained soil. The species tolerates heat, drought, and salt spray, and its directly listed hardiness range includes USDA Zones 4–10. It is an evergreen perennial rather than a true grass, with dark green foliage that can bronze in winter.
## Maintenance
Mow or shear the planting in early spring before new growth starts to remove old leaves. Divide plants when needed to control their footprint or establish new clumps. Avoid using it where a low, non-spreading edging is required.
