About Matador Blue Lisianthus

Matador Blue is a double-flowered blue lisianthus in Sakata’s compact Matador series for container growing. The blue selection combines the series’ full flowers with the space-saving habit that made it suitable for pots. ## Flower and Use A 2007 Sakata Seed Iberica product announcement describes Matador as a compact pot lisianthus and identifies blue, pink, and white flower colors; Matador was the double-flowered type. That makes Matador Blue useful in patio containers and seasonal bedding, as well as for cut flowers. See the [Sakata Matador announcement](https://www.horticom.com/revistasonline/horticultura/rh198/64_69.pdf). ## Growing Conditions Lisianthus is a tender perennial generally grown as an annual bedding or potted plant. It grows best with partial sun and shade in well-drained soil. The [University of Florida IFAS lisianthus guide](https://gardeningsolutions.ifas.ufl.edu/plants/ornamentals/lisianthus/) notes that lisianthus can be grown in beds or containers and that the flowers are useful for cutting. ## Maintenance Plant after cold weather has passed and water regularly while avoiding waterlogged soil. Provide support if flowering stems lean under the weight of blooms. Remove faded flowers to keep the display neat.
