About Indigo Gem Haskap (Honeyberry)

Indigo Gem is an upright University of Saskatchewan haskap selection with elongated, flavorful berries; its fruit is about 10% smaller than Tundra, and the plant may grow faster. Honeyberries flower in early spring and ripen to dark blue fruit in late spring. [Indigo Gem profile—University of Saskatchewan](https://research-groups.usask.ca/fruit/our-varieties/haskap-varieties.php#section-6-IndigoGem) [Iowa State Extension: Honeyberries](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/faq/what-are-honeyberries) ## Flowers and fruit Small, yellowish-white, funnel-shaped flowers appear in early spring. The elongated berries turn dark blue as they ripen in late spring and are described as sweet and flavorful; enjoy them fresh or use them in preserves, juice, or syrups. ## Site and pollination Grow in full sun or partial shade. Plant a second honeyberry variety with a similar bloom time to support cross-pollination and fruit set. ## Maintenance Harvest berries as they ripen, and use netting if birds begin taking the crop.
