About Blanche Sandman Honeysuckle Vine

Blanche Sandman is a named trumpet honeysuckle found and sold by Blanche at her Kentucky nursery; Allen Bush later named the selection. University of Kentucky notes its long, consistent flowering and describes red, purple, and orange tones that vary with season and environment. The twining vine supports pollinators and hummingbirds, and Illinois Extension reports small bicolor flowers beginning in May and repeating through the season. Allow a sturdy structure for its climbing stems. ## Garden use Grow it on a fence, arbor, or trellis in sun or light shade. Kentucky’s profile notes that the vine can become rangy in shade while still flowering, so provide enough light and room for new stems. Illinois Extension lists a mature height of 10–15 feet; dimensions can vary with support and pruning. This selection is a useful native-vine choice where a long bloom season and wildlife activity are welcome. ## Maintenance Guide young stems onto their support and remove damaged or misplaced growth as needed. Prune selectively after the main flowering flush if you need to reduce tangles, while leaving healthy stems for continued flowering.
