About Purple Daydream® Dwarf Loropetalum

Purple Daydream® is a compact evergreen loropetalum with mounded, deep purple foliage and pink ribbon-like flowers. It usually grows 2–3 ft high and 3–4 ft wide, holding leaf color through the year and blooming each spring; occasional summer flowers are also reported. The [Southern Living Plant Collection](https://southernlivingplants.com/the-collection/plant/purple-daydream-dwarf-loropetalum/) identifies the selection as *Loropetalum chinense* ‘PIILC-III’ and lists it for USDA zones 7a–10b. ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun to part shade. The plant profile describes medium water needs and drought tolerance once established; water regularly while roots establish, then adjust irrigation to rainfall, soil, and heat. Its evergreen foliage provides color through the seasons, while the spring flowers add a bright pink accent. ## Landscape use Use Purple Daydream in a mixed border, low hedge, mass planting, or container; its compact size also suits a slope planting. Southern Living lists the plant as deer resistant. The [U.S. patent record](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP25471P3/en) identifies ‘PIILC-III’ as USPP25471, dated April 28, 2015, and names inventor Joshua H. Kardos. ## Maintenance Fertilize yearly in late spring. Shape in early spring before the first flush only if needed; established plants generally need little pruning.
