Purple Diamond® Semi-Dwarf Loropetalum

Purple Diamond® is the Southern Living Plant Collection selection Loropetalum chinense 'Shang-hi'. It is an evergreen shrub with deep purple foliage and pink spring flowers, sometimes flowering again in summer; the developer lists a mature size of 4–6 feet high by 4–5 feet wide. ## Garden use Its compact habit suits an accent planting, container, hedge, mass planting, or slope. Purple foliage provides year-round color, while the spring flowers add a contrasting pink display. The plant grows in full sun to part shade and is listed for USDA zones 7a–10b. ## Maintenance Southern Living Plants rates water needs as medium and recommends shaping in early spring before the first flush. Its plant profile also lists deer resistance and yearly late-spring fertilizing.
