Create design onlineAbout Russell The Chatelaine Pink Lupine
Russell The Chatelaine is a clump-forming lupine with upright spikes of rosy-pink flowers, each with a contrasting white standard, above green palmate foliage. Seed listings describe spikes about 3–4 feet tall, while the [Royal Horticultural Society’s profile for ‘The Chatelaine’](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/86359/lupinus-the-chatelaine-band-of-nobles-series/details) records a mature height of 0.5–1 m and spread of 0.1–0.5 m. Its pink-and-white flowers make a bright vertical accent in mixed perennial borders.
Site it in full sun or light shade in moist, well-drained soil. Lupine flowers open progressively from the base of each spike, extending the display over several weeks. This exact selection is described by [Moles Seeds](https://www.wholesale.molesseeds.co.uk/perennials/i-l/lupin/russell-series/lupin-russell-the-chatelaine-lup75) as pink with a white flag. The RHS lists the plant as fragrant and warns that lupines are harmful if eaten, including to pets; take care where children or animals may chew the plant. Tall flower stems can need support in exposed sites.
## Maintenance
Keep soil evenly moist while the plant is growing, without leaving it waterlogged. Remove spent flower spikes to encourage a later flush, and stake stems if they begin to lean. Watch for slugs and lupin aphids on new growth.
