Create design onlineAbout Lupine Staircase™
Staircase™ is a Lupinus series bred for compact, heavily branched plants with multiple flower spikes opening together. Green Fuse Botanicals lists a range of named flower colors, including Blue, Dark Blue White, and Dark Blue Yellow, and its grower catalog describes first-year flowering without vernalization.
## Flowers and garden use
The series is part of First Light® Perennials. Green Fuse describes the plants as forming a tiered display with a longer flowering period and a full, colorful presentation. Its catalog notes container appeal. North Carolina State Extension describes lupines generally as herbaceous perennials that bloom from spring into summer; the genus does best in full sun, organically rich soil, and consistent moisture.
## Maintenance
In hot summer areas, provide light afternoon shade and mulch to keep roots cool. Deadhead spent flower spikes to encourage additional bloom.
