WESTCOUNTRY™ ‘Salmon Star’ is an upright, clump-forming lupine with palmate green leaves and tall spikes of coppery salmon-orange flowers. It grows about 24–36 inches tall and around 24 inches wide, blooming in spring and early summer in sun or part sun. The flower spikes add vertical color to perennial borders and can also be cut for arrangements.
## Growing Conditions
The official plant profile lists USDA zones 4–9 and recommends well-drained, slightly acidic soil with consistent moisture. Give plants sun or part sun; avoid poorly drained ground. The foliage forms a leafy mound beneath the flowers, so allow room for an approximately two-foot spread. The profile also notes that the flowers attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds and that the plant resists deer and rabbits.
## Maintenance
Remove spent flower stalks after bloom to encourage an extended flowering period. Use clean shears and leave healthy foliage in place. See the [Proven Winners ‘Salmon Star’ plant profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/lupinus/westcountry-salmon-star-lupine-lupinus-polyphyllus) for its current mature-size and care details.
