WESTCOUNTRY™ 'Tequila Flame' Lupine

WESTCOUNTRY™ ‘Tequila Flame’ is an upright perennial lupine with green foliage and striking red-and-yellow flower spikes. The plant reaches about 24–36 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide, with flowers appearing in spring and early summer. Its compact, sturdy habit suits borders, containers and cut-flower gardens. ## Growing Conditions The Proven Winners profile lists USDA zones 5–8 and recommends sun or part sun, consistent moisture and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Plant it where its colorful flower spikes can be seen among lower perennials or repeated in a mass planting. The blooms attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds; the profile also notes deer resistance. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower stalks to encourage an extended display, and avoid waterlogged soil. Allow the foliage to remain after flowering so the plant can continue growing.
