About Wood Rush

Great wood-rush (Luzula sylvatica) is an evergreen perennial that forms dense tufts of glossy, hair-edged leaves. Airy panicles of small brown flowers rise above the foliage in May and June, while slow stolon growth gradually fills the ground. [RHS plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/10579/luzula-sylvatica/details) Use it beneath trees or in woodland-style borders, banks, and slopes. It grows in full sun, part shade, or full shade when moisture is available, and tolerates clay, loam, and sandy soils that are moist and well-drained or poorly drained. RHS lists acidic to neutral soil. Mature size varies with conditions; its profile gives a maximum height of 0.5–1 m and spread of 1–1.5 m. Divide established plants or grow from seed for propagation.
