About Creeping Jenny

Creeping Jenny is a low, mat-forming perennial with rounded green leaves and small yellow summer flowers. The [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/10632/lysimachia-nummularia/details) lists a mature height and spread of about 4–20 inches and describes its stems as spreading over the soil. Because the [NC State Extension profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/lysimachia-nummularia/) notes that stems root at nodes and rhizomes help it spread, use it where its growth can be kept in bounds. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun or partial shade, in clay or loam that stays moist; the RHS also lists well-drained and poorly drained conditions. This species is associated with damp grassy places, yet can tolerate some drying once established. Its dense mat can cover bare soil and its trailing stems suit a container, but avoid planting it where it can escape into natural areas or crowd slower neighbors. ## Maintenance Trim or pull runners regularly to keep the plant within its intended space, and remove escapes promptly. Watch foliage for rust or leaf spots, which NC State Extension lists among potential problems.
