Golden Creeping Jenny is the golden-leaved form ‘Aurea’ of a low, creeping perennial. Its round, coin-like leaves bring bright color to moist planting areas, while trailing stems can soften container edges or cover ground.
## Appearance and Placement
The foliage ranges from lime or chartreuse in shade to gold in brighter light; hot southern sun may scorch it. Morning sun with afternoon shade is a useful compromise in warm climates. Small yellow, cup-shaped flowers appear intermittently from early summer into fall, though flowering is not reliable every year. A mat usually stays only a few inches tall, but rooted stems can spread well beyond the original planting.
Use it in a contained bed, shallow container, or damp spot where its vigorous stems can be monitored. It can soften pond margins and cascade over walls, but avoid planting where it could escape into natural waterways or wetlands. Wisconsin Extension notes that the species is restricted as invasive in Wisconsin while the yellow ‘Aurea’ cultivar is permitted there; check local rules before planting elsewhere. It tolerates moist soil and benefits from regular watering, especially in dry weather. This cultivar is distinct from other golden selections such as ‘Goldilocks’.
## Maintenance
Trim or pull stems that grow beyond the intended area and remove rooted sections promptly; pieces left at leaf nodes can establish again. Division or cuttings are easy ways to propagate wanted plants. No routine pruning is needed for a contained planting, but check its edges regularly and watch for slug damage during wet periods.
