Magnolia 'Stellar Ruby'

Stellar Ruby is an evergreen magnolia hybrid with a naturally dense, upright form, usually growing 10–15 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide. Its pink-to-ruby flowers have a banana-like fragrance; the main flush appears in late spring, with scattered blooms through summer and early fall. It grows in full sun to part shade in USDA zones 7a–9b. The collection also lists it for coastal gardens and mass plantings. ## Maintenance Water before planting, then water deeply to settle the soil around the rootball. Plant slightly above surrounding grade, backfill, and mulch 1–2 inches deep while keeping mulch clear of the stem. The collection recommends yearly fertilizer in early spring. If pruning is needed, do it after the spring bloom.
