About Edith Bogue Magnolia

Edith Bogue is one of the more cold-tolerant selections of southern magnolia. It has glossy green leaves with light-brown undersides and large white flowers; Cornell describes a mature tree around 30 feet tall and about half as wide. ## Placement Use it as an evergreen specimen or screen where a broad crown can mature. Its cold tolerance makes it a useful southern magnolia option in cooler parts of the species' growing range, though a sheltered site can reduce winter leaf damage. ## Growing conditions Provide full sun to part shade and consistently moist, well-drained soil. The species prefers organically rich ground and is less reliable in very dry or waterlogged soils. Expect spring flowers, with some continued bloom into summer in suitable climates. ## Maintenance Water during establishment and dry periods, and leave room for the mature spread. Remove damaged or crossing branches as needed rather than shearing the crown.
