About Kay Parris Magnolia

Kay Parris is a dense, compact southern magnolia with evergreen leaves, wavy margins, and deep orange-brown, velvety undersides. Its fragrant white flowers begin in late May and continue into summer; NC State lists a mature height of 15–25 feet and width of 8–10 feet. ## Placement Use it as a small flowering tree, specimen, screen, or tall hedge. The compact crown and glossy foliage suit a sunny Carolina landscape, while its broadleaf evergreen leaves provide structure year-round. ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil; NC State lists clay, loam, and sand and notes that the plant can tolerate occasionally wet soil. Regular watering supports growth, and some afternoon shade helps in hot, dry locations. The listed hardiness range is USDA Zones 6a–9b. ## Maintenance Water regularly while establishing, then during extended hot or dry spells. Prune selectively if shaping a hedge, and retain enough space for the natural crown.
