About Rose Marie Pink - Purple Magnolia

Magnolia ‘Rose Marie’ is a fast-growing, deciduous small tree with a pyramidal outline and cup-and-saucer flowers in late spring. The flowers have nine tepals, rose-pink outside and paler inside, and can continue into May. The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/329500/magnolia-rose-marie/details) recommends full sun or partial shade and moist, well-drained soil; [Trees and Shrubs Online](https://www.treesandshrubsonline.org/articles/magnolia/magnolia-cultivars-q-r/) identifies Dennis Ledvina as its selector and gives USDA Zones 5–9. ## Flowers and form Rose Marie is described as a pyramidal small tree with a long, later flowering season. Its mature size varies by growing conditions; the RHS profile gives a broad range of 4–8 metres tall and 2.5–4 metres wide. ## Site and soil Plant in full sun or partial shade in sheltered conditions. Magnolia grows best in moist but well-drained, neutral to acidic soil. Late frost can damage flowers, so a sheltered site is useful in exposed locations. ## Maintenance Allow the tree to establish before shaping. Pruning needs are minimal; remove damaged branches and make any necessary cuts between midsummer and early autumn. Keep the root zone evenly moist during dry periods.
