Semi-evergreen to deciduous small tree, native to the eastern United States. Multi-stemmed with loose, open structure. Summer leaves are bright green on top with frosted underside. Creamy-white, lemon scented flowers appear in mid June and sporadically during the summer. Fruits are 24" long and change from green to red when mature. Tolerant of wet soils. Prefers acidic soils or is susceptible to chlorosis.
