About Ballerina White Loebner Magnolia

‘Ballerina’ is a small, rounded Loebner magnolia, often grown as a multi-stemmed tree. It produces large, fragrant, star-shaped flowers in spring, opening white with a pink flush before the leaves. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/41407/magnolia-ballerina/details) describes the flowers and site preferences; Utah State University’s arboretum listing gives a mature size of about 15–20 feet high and wide and USDA Zones 4–8. ## Flowers and form The cultivar belongs to *Magnolia × loebneri*, a hybrid group derived from *M. kobus* and *M. stellata*. Its abundant, many-tepaled blooms make it most effective as a specimen where the spring display can be viewed close by. Full sun or partial shade is suitable. Plant in rich, well-drained soil and allow space for a rounded crown; published mature-size estimates vary, so use the site’s available room rather than expecting a precise final measurement. ## Maintenance Keep the root area evenly moist during establishment and through dry spells, while avoiding soil that remains saturated. A layer of mulch helps conserve moisture. Prune lightly and only when needed to remove damaged growth or correct the outline; flowering magnolias are best shaped after their spring display.
