Create design onlineAbout Fuji Apple Tree
Fuji is a sweet, juicy apple with firm flesh and striped pink-red color over a yellow background. It ripens late, and its fruit can retain quality in storage for an extended period.
## Fruit and harvest
[Washington State University’s Fuji variety profile](https://treefruit.wsu.edu/variety/fuji/) lists Red Delicious × Ralls Janet as its parentage and Japan as its country of origin. WSU describes Fuji fruit as sweet, juicy, and medium firm, with red striping over yellow, and lists late harvest and storage potential of up to twelve months under suitable conditions. Local harvest timing and storage results depend on climate, maturity at picking, and storage conditions.
## Site and pollination
Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Fuji needs pollen from a different apple variety for a reliable crop; a second Fuji will not pollinate it. Select a compatible cultivar with overlapping bloom and a harvest season that can finish before local cold weather. [Utah State University Extension’s home-orchard guide](https://extension.usu.edu/yardandgarden/research/apple-production-and-variety-recommendations-for-the-utah-home-garden) covers cross-pollination, rootstock effects on tree size, and matching varieties to local climate.
## Maintenance
Water consistently while the tree establishes and during dry periods. Prune and train according to the rootstock and chosen form, then thin a heavy set of young fruit when needed. Watch for regional apple pests and diseases, and use local extension guidance for diagnosis and timing.
