Create design onlineAbout Reachable™ Sundance Apple Tree
Reachable™ Sundance is a grafted apple tree carrying the Sundance selection, identified in its plant patent as Co-op 29. It bears yellow fruit, often with a light orange-red blush, with crisp, spicy dessert-quality flesh. The original cultivar was selected in Indiana; local bloom, harvest timing, and tree size vary with climate, rootstock, and training.
## Fruit and selection
The patent records Co-op 29 as a cross of Golden Delicious and 1050 NJI. It describes resistance to apple scab, cedar-apple rust, and fire blight, with moderate resistance to powdery mildew. Fruit ripened in mid-October in West Lafayette, Indiana, about two and a half weeks after Delicious; that timing is a regional reference, not a calendar guarantee. The patent reports that ripe fruit holds on the tree and can keep for up to seven months in refrigerated storage. See the [Co-op 29 plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP13819P2/en).
## Site and pollination
Plant apples in full sun and well-drained soil. Apples generally need pollen from a different compatible apple cultivar for a reliable crop; choose a partner with overlapping bloom and confirm local compatibility with a nursery or extension guide. The exact bloom overlap for this selection is not established here. [Iowa State Extension’s home orchard guide](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/growing-apples-home-garden) explains site selection, pollination, and watering.
## Maintenance
Water deeply during dry weather while the tree establishes and during extended drought. Prune in the dormant season to maintain an open, sturdy framework, and thin developing fruit if branches are overloaded. Clean up fallen fruit and leaves to reduce pest and disease carryover.
