UEB 3449/1 is the breeder's columnar apple cultivar Rondo; the same breeding code is listed in commerce under the Tasty Red name. Its compact, upright form suits a narrow garden or can be used as a vertical accent, and the fruit is crisp and juicy. ## Fruit and season The breeder describes medium to large apples with yellow-green skin covered by a diffuse red blush over much of the surface. The cream to yellow flesh is firm, fine-textured, and very juicy, with a sweet to mildly tart taste. In the Czech growing region, harvest is from mid to late September, roughly ten days before Golden Delicious, and the fruit can be eaten at harvest. These regional dates vary with climate. ## Growth and pollination Rondo has medium vigor, flowers abundantly in mid-early season, and may alternate between heavier and lighter crops. The breeder reports scab resistance and tolerance of powdery mildew. Its crop is heavy enough that thinning helps support more regular annual production.
