SnowSweet® Apple Tree

SnowSweet® ('Wildung') is a late-season University of Minnesota apple with crisp, snowy-white flesh that browns slowly after cutting. Its sweet, rich flavor has a slight tart balance, and the fruit develops a bronze-red blush over a green-yellow background. ## Fruit and season The apples are oblate, average about three inches across, and ripen roughly two weeks after Honeycrisp in Minnesota. They store for around six to eight weeks in common storage and are useful fresh, in salads, snack trays, and sauces. The cultivar arose from a cross between Sharon and Connell Red. ## Tree and site The University of Minnesota reports moderate vigor, an open, somewhat pendant habit, annual productivity, and hardiness to USDA Zone 4a. It also reports average to above-average scab resistance and above-average fire-blight resistance. Rootstock affects tree size; most apple cultivars produce better when a compatible, co-blooming pollinizer is nearby. Harvest when the fruit reaches its characteristic color and flavor, then keep it cool to preserve quality.
