Create design onlineAbout Harvest Gold® Flowering Crab
Harvest Gold® is a vigorous, upright oval crabapple with pink buds that open to single white blossoms. Its small golden fruit persists through winter and may remain into spring until birds eat it, extending the tree’s display after the leaves fall. Sources describe mature trees about 20–25 feet tall and 15–18 feet wide, so give the crown room to develop.
## Seasonal interest
Dark green leaves turn yellow in fall, followed by a long show of golden fruit. The flowers open about a week later than many crabapples, extending the spring sequence. This is an ornamental tree for a specimen spot, street planting, or larger mixed border; its persistent fruit may be attractive to birds.
## Site and hardiness
The original [Lake County Nursery fact sheet](https://www.lakecountynursery.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Malus-%E2%80%98Hargozam%E2%80%99-Harvest-Gold%C2%AE.pdf) identifies the selection as *Malus* ‘Hargozam’ and describes it as disease tolerant. [Utah State University’s arboretum profile](https://extension.usu.edu/botanicalcenter/trees-of-varga-arboretum/harvest-gold-crabapple) lists zones 4–7; [J. Frank Schmidt](https://jfschmidt.com/all-trees/trees/harvest-gold-crabapple/) lists zone 4. The nursery sheet lists Zone 3, so check local guidance at colder sites.
## Maintenance
Allow space for the mature spread and remove fallen fruit from paths where it could become a nuisance. The fruit can dry and drop in late winter; otherwise, sources describe this crabapple as a vigorous, low-care landscape tree.
