Starlite® ('Jeflite') is an upright flowering crabapple introduced by Jeffries Nurseries. Fragrant white blossoms appear in spring, followed by tiny red fruits that persist into winter and attract birds; the glossy green foliage turns yellow in fall. The nursery reports a mature size of about 25 ft tall by 15 ft wide and excellent resistance to foliar diseases, including apple scab. ## Site and care
Plant in full sun and well-drained soil, with room for the upright crown. Good air drainage helps reduce frost injury and disease pressure. Water newly planted trees regularly during their first growing season, then during extended dry periods.
## Maintenance
Prune in late winter while the tree is dormant, removing dead, damaged, or crossing branches and keeping the canopy open. Avoid excessive pruning, which can encourage overly vigorous growth. Monitor leaves for disease symptoms and remove fallen leaves during seasonal cleanup.
