About Ruby Dayze® Flowering Crabapple Tree

Ruby Dayze® is an upright, tightly oval flowering crabapple with abundant bright magenta-pink flowers in spring and tiny deep-red fruit that persists into winter. Its purple-red foliage becomes bronze, then turns orange-red in fall. ## Form and seasonal interest The tree is listed at about 22 feet tall and 16 feet wide, with a shape suited to streetscapes and other narrow landscape spaces. J. Frank Schmidt & Son reports excellent resistance to scab, fire blight, cedar-apple rust, and mildew on its [Ruby Dayze introduction page](https://jfschmidt.com/all-trees/introductions/ruby-dayze-crabapple/). ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun and allow room for its mature crown. It is listed for USDA Zone 4. The bright spring bloom and persistent fruit extend its ornamental interest across several seasons. ## Maintenance Water regularly while the tree establishes and during prolonged dry periods. Prune to remove damaged or crossing branches and maintain the upright oval framework.
