Mary Potter is a small, deciduous flowering crabapple with a broad, spreading crown. Magenta-pink buds open to white flowers, followed by bright red fruit that may remain on the branches into winter.
## Form and seasonal display
The [Arnold Arboretum profile](https://arboretum.harvard.edu/plant-bios/mary-potter-crabapple-2/) describes the tree as broader than it is tall and usually under 10 feet high. UF/IFAS lists 10–15 feet tall and 15–20 feet wide, so allow for a broad crown and local growing conditions. Yellow fall foliage adds a final seasonal color.
## Growing conditions
UF/IFAS lists USDA Zones 4–8a and full sun. Plant in well-drained soil with room for the branches to spread. Good air movement helps keep the canopy healthy.
## Maintenance
UF/IFAS notes that this cultivar can be susceptible to apple scab and powdery mildew. Avoid overfertilizing, which can encourage disease-prone growth, and gather fallen fruit near walks or patios when cleanup is needed.
