About Radiant Flowering Crabapple

Radiant flowering crabapple has deep pink, single flowers opening from red buds in spring and small red fruit that persists after flowering. Its rounded crown reaches about 25 feet tall and 20 feet wide, so allow room for a small ornamental tree. Reddish new leaves turn green in summer and bronze-yellow in fall. ## Landscape use Use Radiant as a flowering focal tree where spring color and persistent fruit are welcome. The fruit can create litter beneath the canopy, so avoid placing it directly over a frequently used patio or path. ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun and well-drained loamy soil. Utah State University lists USDA zones 5–7 and low water use, and describes the cultivar as drought tolerant. Radiant is highly susceptible to apple scab, so consider local disease pressure before planting. The persistent fruit and autumn foliage extend seasonal interest after the spring bloom.
