Create design onlineAbout Red Splendor Flowering Crabapple
Red Splendor is a rounded flowering crabapple with pink spring flowers and persistent red fruit. University of Minnesota profiles describe an upright, rounded tree near 20 feet tall and wide, while another University source notes that mature trees may reach about 25 feet.
## Form and seasonal interest
The rounded canopy works as a flowering specimen and can provide shade as it matures. The published size estimates span roughly 15–25 feet tall and 15–20 feet wide; final dimensions depend on growing conditions. Pink bloom gives way to red fruit in fall and winter. Morton Arboretum rates Red Splendor poorly for apple scab, fairly for fire blight and powdery mildew, and well for rust, useful comparisons when selecting among crabapples.
## Site
Give the crown full sun and well-drained soil, with enough room for its mature spread. ## Maintenance
Prune selectively to maintain the natural crown and remove damaged limbs. Rake fallen fruit where needed and watch leaves for apple scab, particularly in climates with humid spring weather.
