About Weeping Madonna® Weeping Flowering Crabapple

Weeping Madonna® is an ornamental crabapple with horizontal branches that sweep into a pendulous outline. In spring, pink buds open to semi-double white flowers, followed by small gold fruit with a red blush. ## Landscape use Plant it where the sculptural branching can be seen, or train it as an espalier against a fence or building. The tree reaches about 15 feet tall and 15 feet wide, so leave room for the spreading canopy. ## Growing conditions Choose a sunny site with well-drained soil. Lake County Nursery lists USDA zone 4 as the minimum; an exact-cultivar nursery profile also lists zones 4–7 and moderate water needs. Its mature green foliage and spring flowers suit a specimen position or a mixed ornamental planting. The small gold fruit carries a red blush, while the leaves remain green through the growing season. ## Maintenance Prune in late winter before growth begins or just after flowering. Remove damaged or crossing branches and keep cuts selective so the horizontal, pendulous outline remains visible. Finish pruning by June 1, before next season’s flower buds form.
