Glenn is a named mango selection of Mangifera indica, an evergreen fruit tree suited to tropical and subtropical climates. Mango trees vary in vigor; many become large if left unpruned, while low- and moderate-vigor trees can be managed at a smaller size. The [UF/IFAS mango guide](https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/MG216) recommends full sun, a warm site, and good drainage for growth and fruit production.
## Growing
Give this tree room away from buildings, power lines, and other trees. Choose the warmest part of the landscape that does not flood or remain wet after rain. Where water tables are high, a raised planting mound can help improve drainage. Water during establishment, then irrigate mature trees only during severe drought.
## Maintenance
Train young branches to establish a sturdy framework. Use selective pruning to contain the canopy and make fruit easier to harvest; heavy pruning can reduce production for several seasons. Mango trees do not acclimate to cold, and young trees may be killed by brief freezes. Protect them when cold threatens, and remember that cool temperatures during bloom can reduce fruit set.
