Create design onlineAbout Ice Cream Mango Tree
Ice Cream is a low-vigor mango that bears green-to-yellow fruit weighing about 8–9 ounces, typically maturing in June and July in Florida. UF/IFAS reports fair production, monoembryonic seed, and susceptibility to anthracnose for this cultivar. [Its mango growing guide](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/MG216) also describes Florida-specific planting and care.
## Tree and Fruit
Lower-vigor mango trees are easier to keep smaller with annual pruning, though an unpruned mango can develop a large canopy. Monoembryonic seedlings do not reproduce the named cultivar; choose a grafted tree to retain Ice Cream characteristics.
## Site and Care
Plant mango in full sun in the warmest available spot, away from areas that stay wet. The species is adapted to tropical and subtropical climates with little freezing; young trees can be killed around 29–30°F, and flowers or small fruit can be damaged below 40°F.
## Maintenance
Once established, water mature trees during severe drought and avoid poorly drained soil. Light formative pruning builds a strong framework and keeps fruit within reach. Prune soon after harvest, since severe pruning can reduce production for one or more seasons.
