Ostrich Fern

This deciduous fern has large, green, feathery foliage that can be up to 6' tall and is perfect for accents or along garden walls. The fertile fronds are dense and rigid, appearing in the center of the clump in mid to late summer. They are green, maturing to dark brown. They will persist through winter adding interest. The large fiddle-heads of this fern are edible (the state vegetable of Vermont) and are very good when slightly steamed or in a stir-fry.
