Matteuccia struthiopteris var. pensylvanica is a vigorous, deciduous fern known for its upright, arching habit and feathery, bright green fronds that resemble ostrich plumes. It typically grows 2-3 feet tall in gardens but can reach 6 feet in optimal conditions. This native North American variety thrives in moist to wet soils and prefers part to full shade. It spreads via underground rhizomes, making it an excellent choice for naturalizing in woodland areas or along water features.
