Create design onlineAbout Column Stock Lilac Lavender Matthiola
Column Stock Lilac Lavender is an upright Matthiola incana column-stock selection grown for tall, fragrant cut-flower spikes. PanAmerican Seed lists it at 24–30 inches tall, with late-spring, summer, and late-summer bloom in sun.
## Flowers and use
The developer describes dense spikes of large, closely spaced flowers and recommends the type for field production; the finished stems also suit a home cutting garden. The Lilac Lavender selection is named for its lavender-lilac color. Its upright habit and tall flower spikes make it suitable for a dedicated cut-flower row or a sunny garden cutting bed.
## Growing
PanAmerican Seed gives a direct-sow-to-finish period of 20–22 weeks. Cool growing periods favor stem length, while high heat can stunt plants or prevent the flower spikes from developing. The listed height is a range; no mature width or USDA hardiness zone is supplied on the plant page.
## Maintenance
Choose a sunny, cool-season window where possible and keep the row accessible for cutting. Harvest stems as the lower flowers begin to open, and remove spent stems after flowering. Because doubleness cannot be selected, do not rely on every plant to produce the same flower form. See the [PanAmerican Seed plant detail]( ) for the selection’s grower facts and current description.
