Hot Cakes Mixture is a compact Matthiola incana bedding-stock selection with fragrant flowers and a mixed-color display. PanAmerican Seed lists the Hot Cakes Formula Mixture at 10–16 inches tall and 6–8 inches wide, with a four-week plug crop and five to seven weeks from transplant to finish.
## Flowers and form
The breeder describes the Hot Cakes types as well-branched, dwarf plants with bright, fragrant blooms for landscape beds. The Formula Mixture is sold as a mixture, so the flowers vary in color rather than forming a single-color planting. PanAmerican says the selectable plugs can be sorted for double-flowered plants.
## Growing
Plant in sun and allow room for a compact mound. PanAmerican’s exact [Hot Cakes Formula Mixture detail page](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/059304738003396/stock-hot-cakes-formula-mixture/) gives the product size and production timing; the label’s height and spread are retained as ranges.
## Maintenance
Water consistently while plants establish and during dry weather. Remove faded flower stems to keep the bed tidy, and avoid overcrowding so the branching plants remain visible.
