Hot Cakes Purple is a compact Matthiola incana selection with fragrant purple flowers. PanAmerican Seed describes it as a well-branched, dwarf plant with a mounded, upright habit, and lists a height and spread of 10–16 and 6–8 inches.
## Flowers and form
The [PanAmerican Seed plant detail]( ) says the plugs are easy to select for fully double flowers; comparable non-selectable grey-leaf types can include many single flowers. Its bright purple blooms are suited to landscape beds and garden plantings. Blooming is listed for early spring, spring, and autumn.
## Growing
Plant in sun and allow the branching mound room to develop. The grower timing is four weeks for plugs followed by five to seven weeks after transplant to finish; these are production times, not mature garden-size estimates.
## Maintenance
Keep the soil evenly moist during establishment and water during prolonged dry weather. Remove faded stems when the display ends and tidy the plant as needed.
