Create design onlineAbout Katz Lavender Blue Matthiola
Matthiola Katz Lavender Blue is an upright stock selection for cut-flower production in fields or high tunnels. PanAmerican Seed lists spring and autumn flowering and a 32-inch height, with a 32-inch stem length for harvest.
## Characteristics
The Katz series is valued by the grower for uniform stem length and flowering time, as well as better heat tolerance than European or traditional field types. PanAmerican Seed reports that Katz plants produce approximately 50% double-flowering types. The Lavender Blue selection is one color option in the series; its exact profile lists a four-week plug stage and eight to thirteen weeks from transplant to finish.
## Growing
Grow in sun and plan the crop around the target harvest season. Katz can be produced earlier or later in the season and, in some climates, year-round for scheduled flowering, according to the grower. This describes production flexibility and does not establish year-round outdoor garden bloom. See the [PanAmerican Seed Katz Lavender Blue profile](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/074605412002847/matthiola-katz-lavender-blue/) for specific production timing.
## Maintenance
Harvest stems when flower spikes reach the desired stage, then clear spent stems. Follow local sowing and transplant guidance for the desired season; PanAmerican Seed provides production density for field and high-tunnel crops rather than landscape spacing.
