About Katz Purple Matthiola

Matthiola Katz Purple is an upright stock selection for cut-flower production in fields or high tunnels. PanAmerican Seed lists a 32-inch height and spring and autumn flowering, with 32-inch stems suited to harvest. ## Characteristics The Katz series is designed for uniform stem length and timing across its colors, and the grower reports better heat tolerance than European or traditional field types. About half of Katz plants produce double-flowering types. The Purple selection has a four-week plug stage and an eight-to-thirteen-week period from transplant to finish, according to its developer profile. ## Growing Grow in sun and schedule planting for the intended harvest season. PanAmerican Seed says the series can be produced earlier or later in the season and, in some climates, year-round for scheduled flowering. This is production guidance, not a claim of year-round outdoor garden bloom. See the [PanAmerican Seed Katz Purple profile](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/074605412004341/matthiola-katz-purple/) for exact crop timing and details. ## Maintenance Harvest stems when flower spikes reach the desired stage and remove spent stems. Follow regional sowing and transplant guidance; the listed planting density is for field or high-tunnel production rather than landscape spacing.
