Metrosideros excelsa, commonly known as the Pōhutukawa, is a magnificent coastal evergreen tree characterized by its spreading, dome-like habit and multi-trunked structure. It features leathery, dark green leaves with silvery undersides and produces spectacular displays of crimson-red flowers composed of massed stamens. Highly salt-tolerant and wind-resistant, it is ideal for coastal landscapes and erosion control. It thrives in well-drained soil and requires full sun to partial shade.
