About Midnight Express® Redbud

Midnight Express® redbud (Cercis canadensis ‘RNI-RCC3’) pairs bright pink spring flowers with burgundy leaves that carry green undertones through summer. In fall, interior leaves turn golden yellow while outer leaves retain burgundy color; its upright form reaches about 20–30 feet tall and 10–20 feet wide. ## Landscape Use Use it as a specimen tree or among woodland plantings where the seasonal foliage can be seen. The [Proven Winners ColorChoice profile](https://www.provenwinnerscolorchoice.com/product/midnight-express-redbud/) describes the cultivar’s spring flowers, burgundy foliage, upright growth and fall color. ## Seasonal Interest and Siting Choose full sun for the strongest flower count and foliage color. It prefers moist, well-drained soil, though the breeder reports it performs across acidic, alkaline and clay soils. ## Mature Size Allow 20–30 feet of height and 10–20 feet of spread. These published ranges are useful for planning space around the tree. ## Maintenance Regular pruning is unnecessary. If shaping is needed, prune while dormant in winter, as the breeder recommends.
