Create design onlineAbout MAI TAI™ Orange Improved Mimulus
MAI TAI™ Orange Improved is Danziger’s upright Mimulus aurantiacus selection, flowering from early summer into fall. It grows 16–20 inches tall and 10–12 inches wide, with medium flowers and suitability for pots and landscape plantings; Danziger calls the selection Orange Imp. and describes its display as strong red.
## Flowers and form
The plant branches well and has less-sticky leaves than seed-grown types. Danziger describes improved rooting and reports that pollinators visit the flowers. The Orange selection name and the developer’s “strong red” description point to a red-orange range rather than one uniform shade. ## Site and soil
Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. The RHS species profile lists chalk, clay, loam, and sand among suitable soil types; it gives broader species-level guidance, while the height and width above come from Danziger’s selection page. ## Maintenance
Lightly shape evergreen growth in mid- to late spring and remove dead or damaged shoots. Watch for slugs, snails, and powdery mildew, which the RHS lists among potential problems for the species. [RHS evergreen shrub pruning](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/types/shrubs/evergreen-pruning-guide)
