Gold Breeze is an ornamental grass with broad, arching apple-green leaves striped with gold. Joy Creek lists it at 7 feet tall by 30 inches wide and describes the leaves moving in the wind. Set it in full sun with room for its arching foliage. [Joy Creek’s Gold Breeze introduction](https://www.joycreek.com/Miscanthus-sinensis-Gold-Breeze-PP22311-299-031.htm) gives the selection’s mature size and appearance.
## Seasonal display
Red flower plumes rise above the foliage in late August, on stems about 6.5 feet tall. The display continues into fall, with copper-red flowers that add color above the striped blades. Use the grass as a textural focal point or backdrop for lower perennials.
## Planting and care
Choose a sunny position and allow about 30 inches of width for the foliage. The apple-green blades have dense horizontal gold stripes from base to tip, giving the plant color and movement through the growing season.
## Maintenance
Cut old foliage back in late winter or very early spring before new growth begins. [Mississippi State University Extension’s Miscanthus guidance](https://extension.msstate.edu/news/southern-gardening/2025/miscanthus-high-frequency-must-have-ornamental-grass) recommends this timing for ornamental grasses.
