About Graziella Maiden Grass

‘Graziella’ is a deciduous, clump-forming maiden grass with upright stems and narrow green leaves. Silky silver panicles open in late summer, and the foliage develops copper-red and orange tones in autumn. ## Garden character The Royal Horticultural Society lists a mature range of 1.5–2.5 m tall and 1–1.5 m wide. This supports the existing 5 ft height and 3–4 ft width labels at the compact end of the range. The narrow foliage and upright outline give a sunny border or mixed-grass planting a fine-textured vertical accent; the pale plumes remain visible above the leaves. NC State Extension also notes low seed set for this cultivar, but seed behavior can vary by site. ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. The RHS lists tolerance of chalk, clay, loam, and sand, so drainage and exposure matter more than a single soil texture. Allow the clump to develop without crowding its neighbors. ## Maintenance Leave foliage and flower stems through winter, then cut back dead growth in early spring before new leaves emerge. Divide in spring if the clump becomes congested.
