About Little Kitten Maiden Grass

Little Kitten is a compact, clump-forming deciduous maiden grass with arching green leaves and feathery flower heads. The creamy-white flowers open in late summer or autumn and mature to silver, while the foliage turns golden-yellow. ## Form and season RHS describes this selection to about 1.2 meters tall, with a reported spread of 1–1.5 meters. Morton Arboretum describes a dwarf form 1.5–2 feet tall and about 3 feet in flower, so published mature-size estimates differ; allow room for the larger RHS dimensions if space is limited. The RHS lists clay, loam, sand, and chalk as suitable soil types and recommends an open position; protect the clump from excessive winter wet. [RHS: Little Kitten growing guidance](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/137631/miscanthus-sinensis-little-kitten/details) ## Maintenance Leave the flower stems standing for winter interest, then remove dead leaves and cut back old stems in spring before new growth starts. Divide clumps in spring if propagation or renewal is needed.
