About Pocahontas Pink Bee Balm

‘Pocahontas Pink’ bee balm is a mounding Monarda with rounded heads of pink flowers and aromatic foliage. Reports of mature height span roughly 3 to 4 ft, while width is listed up to 24 in.; it grows in full sun to filtered light and is hardy in USDA zones 4–9. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit the blooms, and the leaves release a minty scent when crushed. Plant it in moist, well-drained soil with good air movement; Monarda can develop powdery mildew when crowded or stressed by dry soil. Borders and pollinator plantings give the flowering stems room to show while keeping air moving around the foliage. ## Maintenance After flowering, cut old stems back to about 12–24 in. and leave them standing until they break down; hollow stems can shelter native stem-nesting bees. Avoid overhead watering, and thin crowded clumps to improve airflow.
