Create design onlineAbout Marje® Purple - Monarda
Marje® Purple is a compact Monarda with unusually large purple blossoms that carry color through summer and into fall. Green Fuse describes strong mildew resilience, a useful advantage where powdery mildew often mars bee balm foliage; the plant still needs an appropriate garden site and ordinary seasonal care.
## Garden Use
Use this low, compact bee balm toward the front or middle of a sunny perennial bed, where its purple flowers can be seen up close. The developer lists a garden height of 12–15 inches and notes that the plant needs long days to flower. Its stated summer-to-fall display can extend the season of a mixed border. The historical Green Fuse catalog lists “Zone 4”; because it does not identify the zone scale, this profile does not convert that figure to a USDA hardiness rating.
## Growing Notes
Give the clump room for air movement and avoid crowding, especially in humid conditions. The developer highlights mildew resilience, but that does not mean the plant is immune to disease in every site. Keep the root zone evenly moist during establishment and water at soil level when practical.
## Maintenance
Remove faded flower stems to keep the clump tidy. In late winter or early spring, cut back old stems before new growth begins.
