About Monstera

Monstera deliciosa is a tropical climbing foliage plant commonly grown indoors. Its large, deep-green leaves develop distinctive splits and holes as the vine matures. ## Garden Use Grow it as a container houseplant with sturdy support for its climbing stems. Give it bright filtered light; protect the large leaves from abrupt exposure to strong direct sun. A well-draining potting mix helps limit root problems. The University of Connecticut notes that mature leaves can reach about 36 inches wide, so allow generous clearance for the foliage without treating leaf size as the whole plant’s mature spread. ## Growing Notes Water thoroughly, then let the upper couple of inches of potting mix dry before watering again. Monsteras dislike being kept soggy, especially in cool conditions. Indoor plants grow toward supports and can be pruned or repotted in spring if they outgrow their space. In warm climates, outdoor placement should be sheltered and acclimated gradually. ## Maintenance Wipe dust from the broad leaves and remove old or damaged foliage with clean tools. Check the potting mix before watering rather than following a fixed schedule.
